The Sound of Play videogame music podcast

For many of us, it’s hard to think of almost any videogame without our minds conjuring up the music that accompanied it. Over the decades they’ve evolved from simplistic monaural beeps and bloops to full orchestral scores recorded in 7.1 surround, but from their earliest days right up to today, soundtracks have played an integral part of our memories of the games we played, and the times in our lives when we were playing them. What we aim to bring you with Sound of Play is a diverse sample of our favourites pieces from the many air-punching, spine-tingling, tear-jerking and grin-inducing videogame soundtracks we’ve heard over the years.

Sound of Play: 186 – The videogame music podcast

This week, Sound of Play brings you a musical collage — a constellation of audio memories from the year 1999. Rediscover favourites from 1999 or encounter tunes for the first time. This mix contains excerpts from 154 of the year’s games.

We challenge you to test your knowledge of video game music by trying to identify all of the games included within, and you can collaborate with members of our community by sharing your knowledge at caneandrinse.com/forum. On Februrary 28th, a video revealing the identity of each game included will be posted on the Cane and Rinse YouTube channel at https://youtu.be/m-75MnjcAqk.
